Additional Information on Purple Martin Bird Houses
Purple Martins are aerial insectivores, meaning that they catch insects
from the air. The birds are agile hunters and eat a variety of winged
insects. Rarely, but on occasion, they will come to the ground to eat
insects. Purple Martins will often abandon their nesting areas if they are threatened by a predator. If this happens just once the entire colony may leave the nesting area and look for new housing. Also, once Purple Martins successfully breed at a specific location they will continue to return to this area.
